The winter recruitment period is always a period of significant speculation and potential big-money moves. A number of high-profile stars find themselves connected to transfers out of their present teams. This article explores some of the key figures that could be on the move in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Although Ghana's inability to qualify for the AFCON, which has left the forward in contention, reports suggest an important transfer is imminent. The 25-year-old possesses a deal with a £65 million release clause active for a short period at the start of the month. Latest reports suggest the Premier League champions look to have won the race for his services. Other suitors such as Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have moved on to alternative options, potentially opening the door for clubs like Manchester United or Liverpool to make a last-minute bid.

Marc Guéhi

This English centre-back has continued to impress for Palace despite a previous move to Anfield collapsing. With his deal due to expire in the summer, this represents the club's final opportunity to obtain a fee for their skipper. A host of top clubs, such as City and several European giants including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, reportedly hold an interest. Yet, a January exit is considered difficult, particularly given the manager's dependence on the defender.

Brennan Johnson

The Wales winger has had first-team opportunities limited at Tottenham this campaign. Despite being the club's top scorer the previous campaign, he has started just a handful of league matches. Reports suggest the North London club is open to a sale for the correct price, thought to be in the region of forty million pounds. The Cherries appear to be leading the chase, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also showing an interest.

Rúben Neves

The Portuguese playmaker might be set for a comeback to the English top flight after a spell in Saudi Arabia. Now just 28, and with his agreement expiring in the summer of 2026, he represents a potential bargain. Teams such as Manchester United and Liverpool have been connected to the player. Additionally, there are rumours from Spanish media that he is prepared to accept a pay cut for a move to Real Madrid.

Marc-André ter Stegen

The veteran Germany goalkeeper finds himself as third-choice at Barça following new manager Flick. Having lost his place and had surgery, a winter exit looks highly likely. Villa were once mentioned as a potential suitor, but that move currently seems unlikely. Instead, interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are thought to be showing curiosity in the 33-year-old.

Ivan Toney

This prolific English centre-forward has continued scoring regularly in Saudi Arabia. Coming back to the Premier League might enhance his fading chances of being in the England squad. But, securing a transfer presents major challenges. Al-Ahli are reluctant to part with him, and his reported enormous salary render any move difficult. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton have all been mentioned as interested parties.

Conor Gallagher

The energetic midfielder drew widespread interest in the summer but stayed at Atlético. With limited starting appearances in La Liga this season, he is eager to find more minutes ahead of the tournament. Manchester United have been strongly connected, and a return to Selhurst Park, a club he excelled on a temporary deal, is also a option, though wage constraints might be a stumbling block.

H. Elliott

Although excelling and being named player of the tournament at the Under-21 European Championship last summer, this talented midfielder has struggled for minutes on loan at Aston Villa. The manager has confirmed the loan move will not be made permanent. Due to FIFA regulations regarding playing for two clubs in a campaign, a move back to his parent club before next season seems to be the sole viable solution.

K. Yildiz

The exciting Turkish attacker is in fine form for Juventus this season. With his existing contract running down, a host of English clubs – including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are monitoring the developments. Juventus are eager to secure the 20-year-old to a new long-term contract but face a battle to keep one of the continent's brightest prospects.

Kees Smit

This highly-touted Netherlands teenage midfielder has drawn parallels to Kevin De Bruyne for his playing style. After starring at the U19 Euros, he has become a regular in the AZ Alkmaar first team. This teenager is widely expected to make a big-money transfer this month. Newcastle United are believed to be frontrunners, but could face strong competition from Real Madrid for a signing priced at around twenty-two million pounds.
